Water Metering for Government and Utility Programmes

Public water programmes can involve many sites, stakeholders and operating environments. Metering requirements should be explicit enough to compare products and support the full service life, from pilot and installation through data use and maintenance.

Define programme outcomes

Specify the decisions the programme must support, such as network monitoring, consumption records, allocation or loss investigation. Define service boundaries, stakeholders, acceptance criteria and reporting responsibilities before selecting equipment.

Write measurable technical requirements

State pipe sizes, flow ranges, pressure and temperature conditions, installation environment, accuracy evidence, communications, data format, power and service expectations. Separate mandatory requirements from preferences and request documentation for the exact proposed model.

Pilot representative conditions

A pilot should include typical and challenging locations, communications coverage and installation arrangements. Check reading consistency, commissioning, data export, field support and the time required to resolve faults. Use documented acceptance criteria to decide whether to scale.

Plan for the full lifecycle

Budget for gateways, connectivity, software, training, replacements and support, not only meter purchase. Define asset records, cybersecurity ownership, repair procedures and vendor exit or data-export options. Contact Dropwise to discuss public-sector or utility applications.
