Water Meter Installation and Maintenance Checklist
Correct installation and a repeatable maintenance process help water meters provide dependable readings over time. The exact requirements vary by model and site, so the product manual and qualified installer’s procedure take precedence over any general checklist.
Before installation
Confirm the approved meter model, size, flow direction, pressure and temperature limits, permitted orientation and required straight pipe lengths. Inspect the pipe and fittings, plan isolation and access, identify power or communications needs, and coordinate any shutdown.
During installation
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and local codes. Keep the meter accessible for inspection and reading, protect it from unsuitable environmental conditions, and record its serial number, location and configuration. Avoid forcing alignment or loading the meter body with pipe stress.
Commission and validate
Flush or prepare the line as specified, check for leaks, verify the display and communication path, and compare readings with an appropriate reference or known operating condition. Record initial readings and any commissioning exceptions.
Maintain the measurement system
Set an inspection schedule based on the model, service conditions and applicable requirements. Check the meter, wiring, batteries, communications, seals and data gaps. Review anomalies and retain maintenance records; arrange calibration or replacement when required by the manufacturer or programme.
